"I HONOR" VETERAN TRIBUTE BANNER
 CEREMONY

The Village of Manhattan will dedicate its newly displayed veterans banners, with a ceremony set for Sunday, May 25. The I Honor banners, created in partnership with American Legion Manhattan Illinois Post 935 as an effort to recognize veterans of Manhattan and Manhattan Township, are hung on street poles in town. A limited number of positions were available along the major streets in Manhattan Township, organizers said, so recipients were selected via lottery. The banners will remain in place until Veterans Day, when they'll be pulled down and given to families as keepsakes. Village and American Legion leaders will hold the dedication ceremony Sunday, May 25 at 10 a.m., at Manhattan American Legion Post 935, 230 S. Wabash St.

The ceremony will include welcome remarks by John Kestel, an opening prayer by Deacon Melty, followed by John Kestel leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Manahattan Mayor Mike Adrieansen will speak, following by Dave Kestel reading a Memorial Day poem. The names of those featured on the banners will be read by Lisa McGlasson. The ceremony will close with remarks from Commander Robert Angone.
